The Move to Beijing
小雨从一个小城来到北京。
Xiaoyu from one (M) small city come to Beijing.
Xiaoyu came to Beijing from a small town.
这是她第一份真正的工作。
This is her first (M) really (POSS) work.
It was her first real job.
公司在城东，房子在城西，离地铁站要走二十分钟。
Company at city east, house at city west, from subway station need walk twenty minute.
The company was in the east of the city, her apartment in the west — a twenty-minute walk from the subway.
她的房间很小，只有一张床、一个桌子、一把椅子。
Her (POSS) room very small, only have one (M) bed, one (M) table, one (M) chair.
Her room was tiny — just a bed, a desk, a chair.
冬天来得快。北京的风又冷又大。
Winter come (DE) fast. Beijing (POSS) wind both cold and big.

早上六点半，她就要出门。
Morning six o'clock half, she then need go-out door.
She had to leave the house at six-thirty in the morning.
晚上十点，她才回到自己的小房间。

公司里同事都很忙，几乎没人有时间说话。

周末她一个人去公园，看着别人和朋友说笑。

狗看见她，跑过来，在她脚边坐下。
Dog see her, run over, at her foot side sit-down.

老人笑着说：“它叫小白。它一般不这样。”
Old person laugh (CONT) say: "It call Xiaobai. It generally not this-way."
The old man smiled. "He's called Xiaobai. He doesn't usually do that."
小雨也笑了。这是她到北京以后第一次真的笑。
Xiaoyu also laugh (PERF). This is she arrive Beijing after first time really laugh.
Xiaoyu smiled too. It was her first real smile since coming to Beijing.
从那天开始，她每天早上都在那里跟他们打招呼。
From that day start, she every day morning all at there with them greet.
From that day on, she greeted them every morning.
有时候老人请她喝一杯热水。

Sometimes the old man offered her a cup of hot water.
有时候她和小白一起走到地铁站。
Have time she and Xiaobai together walk to subway station.
Sometimes she walked Xiaobai to the subway station.
工作还是又忙又累，可是她不再每天想着回家了。

春天来的时候，她在公园看见了人生第一朵开在北京的花。
Spring come (POSS) time, she at park see (PERF) life first (M) bloom at Beijing (POSS) flower.
When spring came, she saw — in the park — her first Beijing flower in bloom.
夏天，她交到了几个朋友。
Summer, she make-to (PERF) several (M) friend.
By summer, she had made a few friends.
秋天，她搬到了一个稍微大一点儿的房间。
Autumn, she move-to (PERF) one (M) slightly big a-bit (POSS) room.
By autumn she moved to a slightly bigger room.
一年过去了。
One year pass (PERF).
A year passed.
公司来了一个新女孩，刚刚从南方搬来。
Company come (PERF) one (M) new girl, just from south side move come.
A new girl arrived at the company, just moved up from the south.
她的眼睛跟小雨一年前一样——又累又怕。

小雨请她一起吃了饭。

After dinner they walked together to her neighborhood gate.
小白看见小雨，又跑过来。
Xiaobai see Xiaoyu, again run over.
Xiaobai saw Xiaoyu and ran over again.
小雨指着它对那个新女孩说：“这只小狗，是让我留下来的理由。”
Xiaoyu point (CONT) it toward that (M) new girl say: "This (M) small dog, is let me stay-down-come (POSS) reason."
Xiaoyu pointed at the dog and told the new girl, "This little one is the reason I stayed."
